Sneak Peek: The Latest Apple iPhone Release

It’s official! The iPhone 12 is here, and it has some incredible features for both Apple lovers and Apple newbies alike. Launched on October 23, the iPhone 12 has a family of four models: the iPhone 12, the iPhone 12 Mini, the iPhone 12 Pro, and the iPhone 12 Pro Max. In this blog, we’ll cover the need-to-knows of each model. By the end of the blog, you’ll want to get your hands on one of these—trust us!

(Quick reminder before we get started: Our technicians are continuously trained on new Apple models as they are released. So if you ever experience any issues with your iPhone 12 or any other iPhone model, we’ve got you covered with our Apple iPhone repair experts!)

The iPhone 12

The iPhone 12 is a huge technological success, boasting a new design, exceptional dual-lens cameras, 5G connectivity, and a solid battery life. As far as iPhones go, it is the future! Its exciting new features include:

Design – Unlike the rounded edges of previous iPhones, the iPhone 12’s edges are flat, making it more comfortable to grip and hold. Perhaps the most exciting design aspect of the iPhone 12, however, is its color options—black, white, deep blue, light green, and red.

Display – The iPhone 12’s Super Retina XDR display makes colors intense and lifelike, transforming the viewing experience into something truly incomparable.

And more!

The iPhone 12 Mini

The iPhone 12 Mini is almost identical to the iPhone 12, holding all of the same features in a smaller, sleeker package. The iPhone 12 features a 6.1 inch display, while the Mini features a 5.4 inch display, making it the smallest iPhone since the iPhone SE. Its compact size is perfect for those who have been looking for a phone they can use one-handed. A couple of other features of the iPhone 12 Mini include:

Water Resistance – Less graceful iPhone users will be happy to discover that the iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Mini can withstand up to six meters of water for up to thirty minutes. This means they can withstand rain, spills, and other common accidents with no problem! No one likes needing iPhone water damage repair, so this feature is a gamechanger.

Drop Protection – The iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Mini have four times stronger drop protection than other iPhone models due to the “ceramic shield” material protecting them. Ceramic shield is known as one of the toughest, most durable smartphone glasses. With a ceramic shield, you will rarely be in need of iPhone screen repair!

The iPhone 12 Pro

Photographer lovers, this one is for you! The iPhone 12 Pro offers advanced triple-camera setups and other photography features such as:

Telephoto Lens – This third telephoto lens is only a feature of the iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max models. This lens is designed for taking accurate, precise images of distant objects.

Night Mode – Although the Night Mode feature is on the iPhone 11, Night Mode on the iPhone 12 Pro is a part of the ultra-wide camera, standard wide camera, and the front camera. This allows you to take low-light photos that are crisper without having to use the flash.

The iPhone 12 Pro Max

The iPhone 12 Pro Max offers almost all of the same features as the iPhone 12 Pro, except it boasts a larger and better display, battery, and camera system. Other features include:

A Wider Wide Camera – You read that right! The iPhone 12 Pro Max’s wide camera is even more improved with a 47% larger sensor and pixels.

Sensor-Shift Stabilization – Yet another incredible camera feature, sensor-shift stabilization makes your pictures and videos steadier. Say goodbye to blurry photos!

Convinced yet that you want to upgrade to one of these beauties? Whether you’re looking for a new iPhone, looking for iPhone repair help, or just looking to learn more, iCare Repair is here to help!

The Scariest Tablet Repair Mistakes

A broken tablet makes it impossible to work, stream, shop, or participate in social media, which quickly becomes inconvenient and frustrating for you. Even more inconvenient, though, is ignoring the problem with your tablet and allowing it to worsen before taking it to a professional.

The good news is—most tablet damage is repairable and affordable, especially if you come to iCare Repair! You can count on us for cheap iPad repair.

In this blog, we’ll discuss common issues with tablets and ways to prevent these issues from worsening.

Cracked Screen

The most common tablet or iPad repair issue we see is a cracked or shattered screen, typically from dropping the tablet. Time is of the essence with this issue; the longer you wait to have your screen repaired, the more it could crack and break. Eventually, it might even become unresponsive to touch. Fortunately, cracked screens are relatively simple to repair or replace, so as long as you get to a repair shop as soon as it breaks, your tablet will likely recover.

iPad Repair

Broken Camera

Yes—tablet cameras take great photos too! That’s why it’s so frustrating when your tablet’s camera isn’t working. Whether your photos are coming out blurry or the camera is simply failing to start, the most efficient way to get it back up and running is by taking it to a professional tablet or iPad repair shop.

Sometimes turning the power on and off will do the trick, but if that doesn’t work, talking to a tablet repair expert is the most efficient next step.

Broken Home Button

If you own an older version of the iPad, you might run into the problem of a broken home button. If the home button is stuck, missing, or simply not working, it may be time to visit iCare Repair to get it replaced.

Before stopping by our store, make sure you thoroughly clean on or around the home button in case the problem is just dirt or dust stuck in the button. If the home button still doesn’t work after cleaning it, bring it to us for a quick and affordable replacement! Don’t worry about iPad repair prices. We pride ourselves on our budget-friendly services.

Water Damage

Did you accidentally spill your drink on your tablet? Or drop it in the sink? Water damage is another time-sensitive issue because the longer your tablet soaks in moisture, the more internal and external damage it will face because of that moisture. So don’t hesitate to take it to an iPad repair shop ASAP!

To prevent future water damage, just remember that just because your tablet is water-resistant, that doesn’t mean it is waterproof!

Broken Battery

Old or broken batteries can be detrimental to your device. If your tablet won’t hold a charge or gets extremely hot when you use it, the battery should be replaced before it ruptures. Again, don’t wait to get your battery replaced, not just because of the inconvenience that a broken battery causes, but also because of the potential dangers of the battery leaking chemicals either into your device or outside of it.

iPad Repair

Thankfully, a broken battery is easy to detect and, in the right technician’s hands, fairly easy to replace.

Luckily for you, iCare Repair handles each of these common tablet issues and can have your device working like new in no time. So go ahead and google “iPad repair store near me” or “iPad repair near me” to find a professional technician today!

Meet the Unbreakable Turing Phone

Move over, Superman, because we’ve found a metal stronger than steel and titanium – Liquidmorphium. And the Turing Phone is made of exactly this metal. Not only that, but the phone is also extraordinarily waterproof. (Drop it in water and shake it off.) Plus, it’s designed with heavy encryptions to secure your apps and your private data. Unbreakable and unhackable – what else could you ask for, right?

The 5.5-inch, Android 5.1 smartphone will come in three models: Pharaoh, Cardinal, and Beowulf. Besides the snappy Snapdragon processor and 16GB storage, you’ll love its 13MP rear camera and 8MP on the front for your sweet selfies.

Of course, the Turing Phone is not perfect

No matter how good it sounds, the Turing Phone is still missing some important components like a USB port and a headphone jack. It does have a proprietary jack and Bluetooth.

It is not yet clear how the battery life will last, but we can expect something really good to come out in eight months. According to Turing Robotics Industries CEO Syl Chao, we can expect something that will “change the world”. There are also plans to build something like a robot butler “that will serve your day-to-day needs”, as they work on their own artificial consciousness machine.

So much buzz is building around the Turing Phone but the ultimate test will be in the hands of the consumers. Will all the hype just run flat when the phone comes out on sale?

Ready to buy a Turing Phone?

Pre-orders start on July 31, with prices from $610 for a 16GB model and are available unlocked. Check out http://www.turingphone.com to learn more about this bad-ass phone![/fusion_builder_column][/fusion_builder_row][/fusion_builder_container]

Republic Wireless will refund you for unused data

Smartphone users have always griped about the pricey monthly costs of their carriers. But this will now be a thing of the past because of the new data plan from Republic Wireless.

Introducing the Republic Refund Plan! The idea is simple: Pay what you use; get paid back for what you don’t. So how does it work? Start with the $10 base plan for unlimited talk and text. Next, add cell data depending on how much you expect to use. You can choose between $7.50 for 500MB of data, $15 for 1GB, $30 for 2 GB, and $45 for 3GB.

If you don’t spend the allotted data, you get refunded $1.50 per 100MB of unused data. Let’s say you picked the 1GB tier and only used 800MB. Instead of $25, you would pay only $22. According to Republic’s test run last April, the participants typically saved $5 per month.

Will the Refund Plan work for me?

The plan works best for people who use less than 3GB per month of data. So if you are regularly connected to WiFi or just do basic emails, then you can definitely save money with the Refund Plan. To keep track of your data usage, check it via the Republic Wireless app. You can also use this app to purchase more data.

iCare Repair Opens New Corporate Store in Green Oak Township, MI

Fast-growing mobile device repair brand, iCare Repair, opens newest corporate-owned store in Green Oak Township, MI.

GREEN OAK TOWNSHIP, Mich. – July 1, 2015 — iCare Repair delivers same-day repair of mobile devices, such as smartphones and tablets. The Michigan-based tech repair company specializes in repairing cracked screens, water damage, camera issues, and other software and hardware problems. Its newest corporate store, iCare Repair Green Oak Township, opened July 1 at 9416 Village Place Boulevard, making it the eighth iCare store since the company’s inception in 2012.

Daniel Peabody, iCare’s founder, stated, “Everyone at iCare is proud of the fast continued growth of our stores in Michigan. In three years, we have helped thousands of mobile users save hundreds of dollars because of our cost-effective repair prices and top-quality replacement parts. You can expect the same level of professional service and repairs from our highly trained technicians at the Green Oak Township store.”

Peabody also revealed plans to offer franchise opportunities to the public and is excited to open 10 more locations in Michigan within a 15-month period.

“We want to be more convenient to more people in the community; that’s why we are opening up more store locations in key areas in Michigan. Instead of buying more expensive carrier plans or brand new phones, people will now have an option to select a more affordable repair to their favorite device,” Regional Manager Brandon Mistry said.

iCare Repair’s newest corporate store is located in Green Oak Township, a charter township of Livingston County. Green Oak Township is home to Costco and Kohl’s off the Lee Road exit of U.S. Highway 23 in the northwest part of the township, and to Green Oak Village Place shopping complex. Besides the wide range of retail and consumer services in the area, Green Oak Township is also just 20 minutes away from the campus town of Ann Arbor.

“Our store location in Green Oak Township is very strategic as it is right next to the highway and there are many shopping and dining places in the area. We can provide quick and efficient repair services to their broken iPhone, smartphones, iPads, tablets, and other mobile devices, and customers can get them back in the shortest amount of time,” added Mistry.

iCare Repair of Green Oak Township is located at 9416 Village Place Boulevard, Brighton, MI 48916. For more information on our repair services and price quotes, call (810) 844-3285 or send a message on its Facebook page.

What To Do If You Break Your Phone

[fusion_text]It happens to everybody at least once in their lifetime. You forget your phone in your pocket and drop it accidentally in the toilet. Or you suddenly develop butterfingers and crack your phone screen. There are many ways to mishandle even a sweet new iPhone 6 Plus suited with an Otterbox casing. So in the unfortunate event that you did, what’s the next step?

Fix the problem.

Simple issues like a busted camera or a shattered screen can still be repaired by yourself or by a technician. (If you can’t do it, then that’s what we’re here for.) There are many DIY guides and video tutorials to help you out, and many replacement parts for all kinds of cell phones are for sale online too.

Just keep in mind: Don’t buy low-quality parts or you may end up making the problem so much worse that you may not even be able to sell it. And also, your warranty and insurance may become void if you try to fix your own phone.

Get an early upgrade.

Depending on your carrier, you can be eligible for an early upgrade for anywhere from 30 days to 24 months after signing up. Just return your current device and they will waive your remaining repayments for the phone. Then sign up for an upgrade plan and receive a brand new device.

Just keep in mind: You may need to pay extra fees on top of your plan. These extra fees are like monthly payments for the new phone but are included in your phone bill.

Get a trade-in or sell your broken phone.

If your phone is not repairable, don’t despair because you can still sell it to us here at iCare Repair. No matter the condition, you can still exchange it for a few bucks especially if it’s still a popular model. Or, trade it in and get a new replacement phone.

Just keep in mind: Prices are never consistent and depends on demand. As a general rule, the best time to sell an old phone is before the release of a new model. Check out our automatic quote online and see how much your phone is worth.

Insure your next phone.

An insurance is absolutely worth it if it is a high-end smartphone that costs more than $600, or if you have an active lifestyle, which increases the chances of breaking your phone. Most carriers and third-party insurance companies offer phone insurance and will foot your bill if your phone stops working, gets damaged, or is lost or stolen.

Just keep in mind: Like any other insurance, there are high deductibles and a cap on the number of claims you can make. The cost of a screen replacement on an iPhone 6 may turn out to be cheaper than a year’s worth of insurance.[/fusion_text]

5 Reasons to Buy the New iPod Touch

The iPod has consistently evolved from a musical/gaming device to a total entertainment package that fits right in your pocket. It’s an iPhone without the phone, but we still get all the wonderful goodies and apps available that convince us that the iPod is here to stay for a long, long time. After being on hiatus, Apple has finally released its latest iPod Touch upgrade, and it is said to be the best one ever yet. Yes, we recommend the new iPod Touch and we have judged it to be well worth your money. Here are five reasons to help you consider if it’s time to replace your old iPod.

It’s as fast as an iPhone 6.

Powered by the same A8 processor used in an iPhone 6, the new iPod Touch is six times faster than the A5 chip inside its predecessor, which scored 215 on a single-core test and 410 on a multi-core test. In contrast, the new iPod scored 1379 on the single-core test and 2440 on the multi-core test.

In a test run by TechCrunch, the iPod appears to be slightly slower (1.10 Ghz per core) than the iPhone 6 (1.39 GHz per core) but this may be designed as such in order to preserve battery life better. Moreover, the difference does not really matter because the iPod Touch has a smaller screen and lower pixel count than the iPhone 6. This means the iPod won’t really need that much power from its A8 processor.

The iPod’s 1GB of RAM is also the same as that of the iPhone 6.

The iPod Touch has a much improved camera.

Depend on the iPod as your new point-and-shoot, thanks to the upgrades made on both the back and front cameras. The back shooter now has 8 megapixels of resolution (previously 5MP), while the front camera now supports burst mode, which makes taking selfies easier and faster.

The iPod Touch also works great for taking 1080p videos at 30 frames per second — just the same as the previous generation but now packed with better features, such as slow-mo videos at 120 frames per second, burst mode at ten frames per second, cinematic video stabilization, improved face detection, and time-lapse video.

It doubles as your personal fitness tracker.

You’ve probably heard of the M8 motion coprocessor being used inside the iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, iPad Air 2, and iPad Mini 3. And now, the new iPod Touch also has it so you can track your motion and fitness data and record it in the Health database. Don’t worry about the battery because it can track movement on its own without having to use the battery-draining A8 processor.

The new iPod Touch supports the latest Gigabit Wi-Fi.

The fastest wireless standard today, the Gigabit Wi-Fi is supported by the new iPod so you can expect your wireless usage to be three times faster. Connect your iPod to a compatible 802.11ac hotspot provided by a compatible router or modem to gain the speed benefits.

It has adopted Bluetooth 4.1.

Not even the iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, or the Apple Watch has Bluetooth 4.1 (they’re at 4.0), but the new iPod Touch has it. What is it for, you ask? You can get a more efficient power management, and at the same time, quicker data transfer without the hassle of interferences with LTE bands. And you don’t have to keep on reconnecting your devices after leaving the room, for example. The Bluetooth 4.1 fitness sensors can automatically transfer data from your run or any physical activity when you get back home.

5 Tips to Prolong the Life of Your Smartphone Battery

Besides glass screen replacements, another popular repair that we do here at iCare Repair is battery replacements. The smartphones we use today consist of rechargeable Lithium Ion (Li-ion) batteries, which last a lot longer than nickel cadmium batteries that our cell phones used to have. But lithium ion batteries don’t always perform at their best, especially when they are not being properly charged.

So the question is: How do we prolong the life of smartphone batteries so that our cell phone usage can last the whole day or even night?

Don’t always go for 100 percent.

You probably charge your phone before you go to bed so by the time you get up, the battery is at its full 100 percent. But this practice can hurt your battery in the long run. It’s fine to do it once a month but if you want to extend the battery life, charge the phone from 40 to 80 percent only so it doesn’t overheat.

battery charging tips
Follow the 40-80 rule when charging your battery.

Don’t go down to zero either.

Draining the battery until it reaches zero percent can cause internal damages to the phone. Going from zero to 100 and then 100 to zero regularly can take a toll on the battery. Plugging your phone in for tiny charges throughout the day to keep it from 40 to 80 percent is your best bet.

Stay away from hot or cold temperatures.

Do you leave your phone in the car in the summer heat? Or worse, leave it plugged in? That’s very bad for the lithium ion battery whose biggest enemy is hot temperatures. The battery will degrade much, much faster because of the heat whether you use it or not. But neither is the cold good because it can create moisture within and damage your phone eventually. Keep your phone near to room temperature (72F) as much as possible.

Leave your phone in room temperature conditions. Too hot or too cold is bad for it.

Don’t always charge fast.

There are chargers that boast of their “fast charging” feature so you can go from zero to 50 percent in just a few minutes. It’s fine to do it once in a while when you’re in a hurry, but beware because it’s not good for your battery. Lithium ion batteries work best when charged and discharged at low, consistent speeds.

Fast charging is not ideal for your battery.

Avoid wireless charging.

Wireless chargers seem to be the fad today but they only tend to waste energy by generating heat. And remember that heat is bad for your lithium ion battery. The old-fashioned way is still better. Plug your phone using a wall charger for a faster, safer battery charge and unplug before it hits 100 percent.

Plug your phone instead of using wireless chargers to avoid overheating the battery.

What temperatures do to batteries

Always maintain room temperatures when keeping your phone because phones can lose a portion of their maximum capacity when it’s too cold or too hot.

Loss of 6% per year – 32F

Loss of 20% per year – 77F

Loss of 35% per year – 104F

Is a battery replacement worth it?

A smartphone is only as good as its battery. If your phone can’t keep a charge, is it time to replace the phone or just get a cheaper alternative of getting a new battery? The answer depends on the phone you have. If it’s an old model and it can’t keep up with the newer software updates anymore, it is recommended to get a newer phone. However, if the phone is still in great working condition, you can just simply opt for a battery replacement.[/fusion_builder_column][/fusion_builder_row][/fusion_builder_container]
